A girl was launched by Hugh Hefner the founder editor of the Playboy magazine. She was Marilyn Monroe who overnight became the heart throb of millions. Even now when decades have past after her death Monroe still remains a cuddly girl for most men.
Monroe was born Norma Jean Mortenson in 1926. Her mother was an alcoholic and as we learn now was in and out of mental institutions. Not a happy way to have a childhood, but there was no succor for Marilyn. She was born poor and at that time nobody could have forecast that this girl will shake Hollywood as never before.
Her big break came with Hugh Hefner. This man has certainly a talent for picking the most beautiful women. In 1949 he showcased her on his magazine and there was no looking back after that. She was a dream girl with the loveliest legs and a blonde hair that gave her the halo of a Greek Goddess.
!950 was a good year for her as she broke into the top echelons of the film industry. Her life till then had been pretty ordinary with a marriage thrown in with an aircraft worker named Dougherty. She married when she was 16 in 1942 and divorced in 1946. Till 1950 she was a C class heroine, but then the storm broke as America took notice of her. In the movie All about Eve she even managed an Oscar nomination.
Then followed some stupendous hits like the Seven Year Itch, Some like it Hot, the Misfits and many more. She had now become a star, but perhaps happiness eluded her. She had a string of love affairs and it was rumored she had an affair with the handsome John Kennedy the US president. But as we say good things do not last and one fine day she passed way with an overdose of sleeping pills. She remains a beautiful memory and even now men remember her as the woman who could shake any man
