The amazing power of love and kindness defies all logic. Just how powerful are love and kindness?
I quote: "Love and kindness are very powerful weapons, more powerful than bombs."
This beautiful and prophetic expression comes from an emotional speech given by Kim Phuc Phan Thi, the woman that became a symbol of the horrors of the Vietnam War, on the 40th anniversary of the end of that horrific and scarring war.
Kim Phuc Phan Thi recalls the moment of her running, writhing in pain and naked, as her clothes were burned off by exploding bombs. The eventful moment was caught by a photographer on hand and published across the world. Maybe you have seen the photograph? You might want to do a search and get more details.
Who can deny that bombs are powerful and very destructive? Who can ever forget the destruction, horrors, pain and tears that were caused by the bombs that fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Yes, bombs are powerful!
However, love and kindness are even more powerful not for destruction but for healing from the most horrible of atrocities, whether they be: war, rape, murder, child abuse or molestation. Nothing heals like love. Where there is love, healing will take place.
The Bible describes God, not as having love, but as being love. “God is love,” “God so loved the world,” “love is the perfect bond of union,” and “the greatest of these is love” are other powerful quotations about love from the Bible.
The Bible prophecies that wars will one day end, that pain, tears of sadness and even death will end but love will never end. Those who hate will one day cease to exist but those that love will never die for the God of the heavens will see to that.
One day, the horrors of war will not be remembered any longer in a painful way because of being embraced in God’s warm, healing and never-ending love. There is nothing more powerful and more healing than God-like love. If only we would love instead of killing and hating; then, even now, this could be a wonderful world!
