Srikalahasti is one of the famous temple in Chittor District, Andhra Pradesh State. Once a true devotee named Kanappa prayed Lord Dakshinamurthy or Shiva. Kanappa tried to offer his own eye and Shiva pleased with his devotion, blessed him. The significance of the temple is much more understood by the prayers offered by three creatures Spider (sri), Snake (kala) and Elephant (hasti) regularly. The temple got the name from the same.

It is one of the ancient temple well built especially one can be spellbound looking at the pillars of the temple. One can have a darshan of the Lord Shiva in the morning hours and can relax a bit in temple premises. The Prasad is also sold at a reasonable price. Srikalahasti is a little town where people are busy with their own chores.

The temple is opened early in the morning and abhisekham is being done. One can reach the Srikalahasti by road from Tirupati. Lot of APSRTC buses ply from Tirupati to Srikalahasti alongwith other private vehicles also. Another interesting temple just beside the main temple is Pathala Ganapati where one has to get down a few steps to look the Ganapati and pray him. Srikalahasti is better Known by the name `Kailas of the South’. After having the darshan of Lord Dakshinamurthy or Shiva at Srikalahasti it is believed that one can attain moksha or salvation.
