Those who are committed to keeping healthy, may choose to jog all year round. Also, athletes exercise consistently, to keep in the best of shape. Cold weather is no exception, for many fitness enthusiasts. Keeping at a healthy weight is a constant effort, for some people. Daily exercise makes this goal much easier to attain. So, despite the setting in of a long, cold winter, physical fitness doesn't cease being a top priority.
Joggging in hot weather, creates an entirely different set of issues that have to be dealt with. The bottom line, jogging is suppose to remain beneficial and enjoyable. It should never become a pointless, miserable battle with the bitter, cold weather.
Set realistic expectations for yourself. Jogging should never inflict dread, discomfort, or misery. It should be a health promoting experience, of accomplishment and pleasure, all rolled up in one fun activity. It shouldn't leave you feeling totally drained and exhausted beyond your limits. If the air outside gets extremely bitter, don't disregard another option, to jog indoors on a treadmill or at a fitness center on a track, created specifically for this exact purpose.
If you do jog outside, dress appropriately for the present conditions. Wear layers of clothing, with sweats, jackets, thermals, gloves, a scarf and hat. Frostbite or a pulled muscle are two risk factors that might be faced, cutting your jaunts off, for an indefinite length of time. Also, using brighter colors will make you more visible to motorists that may be passing by. Black and white cause you to blend in more, thus possibly not being seen by the driver of an oncoming vehicle. Safety should always be your number one priority.
Using lip balm and moisturizer, all with UV protection, are extremely important, also. Stay on roads that are most likely to be plowed and choose a route where you can be readily spotted, by traffic or passers by. So, if you ever slip and fall or have any other problem arise, others will be nearby to help you. Try to jog when there's sufficient light, for increased visibility. Your purpose should always be to maintain fitness, not inflicting any unnecessary stress or danger on your body.
