Jacque Bermejo and Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana): Faker Account or the Real Deal

Flak. That's what you'll get -- and a lot of "expletives deleted" -- if you're not careful with what you post. Just one line of a few words, and your social life will forever change. Branded, outlawed, ostracized by your own people, you will live the rest of your life thinking about the few stupid words you posted in Facebook.

If you're a 60+wpm typist you can type the following

“buti na lang am hir in Dubai! Maybe so many sinners bak der! So yeah deserving wat hapend!”

in less than 15 seconds. For a Facebook account named Jacque Bermejo posting about the recent Ondoy (Ketsana) floodings in the Philippines, a few seconds, 18 words, 91 letter columns,3 exclamation points and 72 actual letters meant explosion of hatred from her own people, Filipinos.

For the poor girl who, according to one site "is a Filipina from Roxas, Capiz...currently working in the United Arab Emirates in a 3-year old European managed company CASAPRESTIGE" the result was growing uproar and hatred from the Filipino populace. The real Jacque Bermejo issued a statement that included the following:

"This recent controversy has greatly affected my reputation, my family, and my friends. I am devastated and shocked at the extent my character, my personal information and private space have been violated."

Poor girl!

Friends of Bermejo came to the defense. Alex blogspots,

"I know her. Her name is Jacqueline Bermejo. She's my friend and I've knon her for nine years now. That post wasn't made by her. A still unidentified person has been using a fake Facebook account and a fake friendster account under her name. She's a victim of a prank. You've all been reacting to a prank. She called me up last night and is very upset that her name is being abused on blogs and websites for days now. I am bothered about this myself and wrote about this issue on my blog."

Angry mobs also stampede their way to the public square posting comments in Yahoo, like,

Jack: "I am also an OFW from saudi but a genuine one, Overseas Filipino Worker....This girl gave a new meaning to OFW- Overseas Filipina Whore!"

Phine: "she's nobody but a helpless lady. She's just a waste of time"

Bonsai: "She is a thick-skinned-pathetic loser with a puny brain who cannot compose a grammatically correct sentence in English!"

Some people took the high road and said (also in yahoo),

Ash2log: "people... just relax, please... we can call her all the names we want and wish her the worst in life (and death), but that would bring us down to her level... don't you think? Fraud or not, any person who's in his/her right mind would not make a comment like that so let's drop it, she's not worth our time. all my kababayan, my family, relatives, friends and friends of friends, i pray that the Lord would strengthen us during these tough times. And as we have all proven in the past, Filipinos are resilient, kind, loving, sharing, prayerful people that prepares for the worse and hopes for the best, like the quote Scarlett o Hara is famous for: 'After all, tomorrow is another day.'"

Not since a few months ago has the internet seen an issue all a-buzzing.
========================

Frankly, I'm tired with the method people deal with data. Our minds need data to function. A simple rational ability is not enough. The mind needs data to function. Let me illustrate. When one sees the mathematical symbol "+" one thinks addition. A simple mathematical reasoning would function if one sees 1+8+__. Easy. But what if one sees ___ + 12 = __? How in the world will your mind function? Mind needs data to function. Without data, the mind wanders to confident ignorance or haughty opinions.

Honestly, what is the data we have? Data #1: Bermejo slanders the Filipino people. Data #2: Pseudo-Bermejo slanders the Filipino people. Data #1 is not anymore a simple erosion but a large-scale landslide. Data #2 stands on the Bermejo's official statement.

Will the real data please stand up?

Interestingly, Clay P writes,

"I made some investigation...her FB accounts have the same pictures until one was deleted when the hatred grew. But both have her multiply url name of starfishbuang. No hacker can open a fake account with the same url. I agree, it's a lame excuse that she was hacked. Im sorry for her though. What she said was stupid and she's trying to correct it.

What Clay P is saying is both the FB account and the starfishbuang (which is truthfully a Bermejo Multiply account) are created by the same URL. Now the starfishbuang site is deleted, further justifying Clay P's theory. Baka naman delete niya kasi ayaw na niyang may mga makapag pry pa ng info from her real site. Pwede rin namang ganon.
