The Internet is Dangerous

The internet is one of the most used inventions of the world, if not the most used. There are countless advantages to using internet and it offers a great amount of information and entertainment methods. There are so many advantages on the internet and so many people use it that they forget that nothing is perfect. As any other thing on this world, the internet has some very major disadvantages which can not only damage your PC but can also cause you some serious real life problems. Let’s approach things step by step.

One of the disadvantages of the internet is the increasingly huge amount of viruses that can be found at every step you take while surfing it. Viruses can be of various types. There are viruses which will only delete some of your data, viruses which will delete your whole operation system and viruses which can damage your hardware. Do you wonder where viruses came from? Well I’m sure you heard about anti-virus. The one who created the first anti-virus also created the first virus in order to make people buy his product. People saw what he did and built another virus to destroy the first person’s anti-virus and built their own anti-virus to stop both viruses, and so on. That’s why there are so many types of viruses and so many anti-viruses out there on the internet.

Another disadvantage of the internet is the amount of inappropriate content available to each and everyone. I’m talking of all the pornography there is on the internet and about the fact that any kid could stumble upon it or deliberately search for it. Kids should not have access to such files under any circumstances. Not only pornography but other inappropriate content can be found like… people (I’m trying to use decent language) causing physical pain to animals and other people deliberately just to show off on the internet, or sadistic videos which can affect children’s minds in a very, very bad way. Some websites took measures against this problem but it just wasn’t enough because nobody can check your real age while you’re hiding behind your monitor.

One of the greatest risks the internet “offers” you is your identity being stolen. If your identity gets stolen you’re in very serious trouble. I do not have accurate information about the way in which identity thieves take action but I’ll tell you how to prevent it. First of all don’t give personal information to anyone no matter how many times they ask you. Giving out personal information like data from your ID documents or bank account information can hurt you very much depending on who gets it. No matter how good a friend you think that person is, if you don’t know them in the real life don’t trust them. If your identity got stolen the thief has pretty much access to everything you own. He can sell your house, can spend all your money and can destroy your life.

Social websites are also a big problem of the internet. How could Facebook do any harm to you? Well think about the thousands of people you can find online. Not even one of them is what they say they are. Behind the “cool” photos and the way of talking there might be a pedophile, a serial killer or who knows what else. If a person you’ve never met before sends a friendship request to you and after a while asks to meet you in person don’t accept unless you are sure that he is what he says he is.

All in all, the internet can be a very dangerous place for those who are not careful enough. If you are cautious about using the internet you should be okay but remember: everybody can be whoever they want to be online so be very careful.
