Finally..Hockey world cup went underway. There wasn't any hype any media surroundings any marketing strategies and in the peace of that hockey world cup made grand entrance to one of its golden nations. First two matches went unnoticed even though one of them was ashes on the hockey pitch i.e. Australia V/s England.

But the land which truly has held pride of this game but over the past years forgotten the game finally came alive with the final game on the first day n that was biggest of all India V/s Pakistan. For both the countries if one wins against other its like winning world cup itself. So both had everything at stake for this match.

For great joy and relief to home country it was India who won the game with the scoreline of 4-1. To be honest the game could have seen lot many goals then actually scored if Tushar Khandekar would have been able to turn in the bowl in the goal and if India would have been able to convert half chances into goals and if Pakistan and especially Sohail Abbas would have had some luck scoreline could have easily read 6-3 or even more.

Today's match was a memorable one for free flowing Hockey from India with silky passing, excellent dribbling, extraordinary runs from forwards and some fascinating drag flicking.First goal was scored by Shivendra Singh after a save from Salman(Pak Goal keeper) bowl fell to him and he coolly turned it into the Goal after that it was Captain's turn to shine as he scored his first game of the goal with a superb drag flick in the last few minutes of the game and then came first goal from the open play for India through Prabhjot excellent work and great example of free flowing hockey which ended in being half chance converted in the goal by him.The only goal that came from open play. After this captain courageous showed his courage when he turned one more penalty corner into goal 4-0India and after that finally Sohail Abbas managed to get one under the bar and scored his first goal of the tournament. India survived few anxious moment in the end and managed to hold on and register first win.

Excellent game and excellent finish. Lets hope this win is beginning of some amazing achievement for Indian hockey and may spur them on to greater things.
