Post war depression was a major concern to people. This is when the prices of things go up with the unemployment rate.
During World War 1, the government used a lot of the money to fund the war and to send troops that would most likely died reducing the population and the amount of people in the workforce. By the end of the war we have had 241 00 Canadians dead or wounded.
This meant that there was not enough people to work in factories or and the economy for Canada went down. Factories could not produce much efficiently because they require many workers to make it efficient and work.
This makes it diffcult for a country to move foward after a war with a small labour group to help develop Canada.
There was not enough produce and the prices of everything went up because there were not a lot of items.
The GNP of Canada went down by 28% and Canadian exports went down by 50%. It was a very hard time to live in Canada at this time.
Even though the depression was inevitable, if there were not any conscription there would be more people in the work force and that would have reduced the effects of the depression.
