HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS A TV ADDICT
When I was a child, I was never fond of television so much. As far as I can remember, I’d rather answer activity books like connect the dots, copy the color, spot the difference and the likes. I like games like chineese checkers, word factory, scrabble and other board games that stirs my brain. Now that I have a child, I wonder why she doesn’t enjoy what I used to enjoy before. She can spend most of her time watching television. Such a boring thing to do. Maybe if I do not interfere with her watching schedules, I bet she can spend the whole day just viewing the tv. So I came to ask myself if my daughter is a TV addict? I did some research on this, and I’d gladly share it with you.
Your child is a TV Addict:
- If your children switches on the TV first thing in the morning, despite plenty of other interesting activities available
- If they persist in sitting watching, even when there is nothing they actually want to see.
- When they lose interest in anything else, and seem to complain any time the TV is switched off.
- When upon arriving home, switching the TV is almost as normal as switching on the lights.
All these are signs of TV addiction. Sad to say, it is the adults or the parents who are to blame with this TV addiction with children. More often than not, we use the TV as an electronic baby sitter. We let the children watch the tv so we can do something else other than babysitting. We can always let them watch TV, but never let it be a routine especially with very young audience to watch more than 1 hour in one sitting. There are a lot of channels to be viewed already, what with the cable we have now. But it is always advisable to watch with your children, even if they are watching cartoons. Make viewing television a bonding time too and not just an excuse to let your children stay put while you do something else.
