As explained by the author of the 3 minute video, tim3jones, he says to look for a piece of ice taht is crystal clear. The piece he use is about 4 inches thick. He teaches that what you are trying to do is make it into a magnifying glass. You need to carve and chip at the ice until it is round. When the piece of ice is ready, it will look see thru. The piece that tim3jones uses as an example, he holds angled to the sun to the point of view of the camera glistens in a spectrum. Holding it ground level so that the sun shines through the middle of the perfectly rounded piece of ice, a loud spark can be heard as it lights pieces of leaves he has on the ground.
