Kauai, the Hawaiian island known as the Garden Island, is the ideal island for couples looking for a quiet getaway. Replete with green tropical vegetation, Kauai offers a great backdrop for an amazing vacation. However, there are a few things one should remember when planning a Kauai trip in order to make it spectacular. Below are some tips to help you with your preparations.

Direct Flight

The first thing that one should do is book a direct flight from the mainland. Although you may score some great deals if you book a flight with connecting stops, this may create extra hassle and inconvenience. Remember, spending a little more money so that you arrive well rested might be worth it!

Rent a Convertible

Speaking of travel arrangements, Kauai is a place where you will want to splurge and rent a convertible. Although it rains frequently in Kauai, the rain stops and starts throughout the day. So, you will have plenty of time to put down the top and enjoy the sunshine as you drive from one end of the island to the other. Just be ready to pull over and put the top up again at a moment's notice!

Book Your Hotel

When you book your accommodations, consider booking a hotel on the east side of the island. Lihue and Kapaa are great choices because they are near the middle of the island's main highway. This way, you aren't that far away from the stunning Waimea Canyon on the southwest side and the beautiful resorts on the north side of the island.

Plan Your Activities

There are many activities to enjoy while vacationing on the island. By far the most exciting experience one can participate in is a helicopter tour of the island. If you are in a helicopter tour, you can see places such as the Na Pali coast that are not accessible unless you hike or fly to them. Considering that most of Kauai is not accessible by road, this is a great way to experience the island. Another great way to get off the beaten path is to book a zip lining tour. This exciting activity allows you to glide through the tree tops at great speed.

Lastly, no matter what else you try to do in Kauai, you must try snorkeling. A great place for beginner snorkelers is Lydgate Park, which is on the east side of the island. This park has a retaining wall made of stone that provides a calm place to swim. Most places that rent snorkel gear have cheat sheets that list the names and pictures of the fish that might see in the ocean. Aloha!
