This article is for responsible adults over 21. Please be advised that this is a recipe I’ve learned over the years and use today for myself on occasion. Anyone under the age of 21 should stop reading this now and go do their homework. Adults need some “down-time” and fun sometimes. This is a recipe for an at home “Flaming Dr Pepper.” Adults, please use common sense for your own safety when making this drink.

When I first tried this I was AMAZED at how much it tasted like Dr Pepper. It quickly became one of my favorite drinks for two reasons: Firstly, it tasted like Dr Pepper; Secondly, it doesn’t take too many to get you drunk. Here is everything you will need to make a “Flaming Dr Pepper.”

You will need Southern Comfort, 151 Rum, Amaretto, shot glass, mug or pounder glass, and a lighter for this recipe.

Some 151 Rum: I use the off brand because this stuff can be a bit expensive if you don’t.
Some Amaretto: Again, I use the off brand to save money.

Some Southern Comfort or the off brand like this one, again to save money.

You will need a beer. I prefer Bud Light or Coors Light for this drink. But you can use whatever you want however, it will change the flavor and may not taste as much like Dr Pepper if you do. You will also need a lighter.

Get yourself a big mug or “pounder” glass for your beer. Fill it about half way with beer. Then get your shot glass. You will need to “eyeball” the shot glass and fill it a third with Amaretto. Then fill the next third with Southern Comfort. The final third is the 151 Rum. For the entertainment purposes you can turn out the lights to better view the blue flames that will be dancing above your shot glass.

Light the shot glass carefully. The alcohol will ignite and if you spill it will burn your counter or table tops. Some people let it burn for a while for effect but that wastes alcohol in my opinion so I drop it right away into the mug of beer. After the shot glass has submerged into the beer mug and the flames have been extinguished, you pound the drink down.

It should taste very similar if not exactly like Dr Pepper if you do it right. Drink responsibly and enjoy.
