Pinterest is the up and coming social network site which is predicted to overtake Twitter in popularity.  Over the last few months the number of people using the Pinterest website has increased dramatically and Pinterest is definitely the new kid on the block when it comes to social network websites.

Why Is Pinterest So Popular?

People in today's climate often don't have time to sit and read messages and articles, they like instant gratification and Pinterest is 90% image based making it quick and easy to find links to whatever takes you fancy!  The user base on Pinterest is 80% female and statistics show that most are mature women so it certainly isn't predominated by the teenage market.   The primary subject matters on the website are food, houses, cute animals and kids but it isn't restricted by these and in fact you can "pin" about anything you wish.

Unlike many other websites with Pinterest you can't simply create an account! First you need to be invited by an existing user.  This procedure is often used by new websites to keep a better track on their members and to prevent spamming but in my opinion there is simply no need with Pintersest to create a buffer between a potential new member and the actual site.

There are two ways to join Pinterest.

• By invitation: An existing member sends you an invite via the Pinterest website. This requires you to give your email address to someone else, they enter it into the website and an email is sent to you with an invitation.  This method is reliant on you actually knowing someone who is already a member. • Request an Invitation to Pinterest via the website:  Many people don't realise the there is a huge red button on the front screen of the Pinterest website which reads "Request An Invitation".  When I initially joined the waiting time for an invitation via the main website was about four hours but more recently I've heard of people waiting for over a month for the invitation to come through.
