In 2004, there were more blog readers than there were blogs. Since then, the number of blogs has increased. In 2009, according to Internet World Stats, there are 126 million blogs vying views from 1.76 billion Internet users.
With that many blogs and increasing at the rate of 120,000 new blogs every day, bloggers must work hard to stand out from the crowd.
To stand out from the crowd would mean more followers for the blogger. And depending on the motivation of the blogger, having more followers would make him better able to achieve his goals.
Below are three ways a blogger can stand out from the crowd.
1. Find a great idea
It has been said that there’s nothing original and unique any more. There’s nothing that hasn’t been done before. Every great idea has been taken. This is why you need to think outside the box.
Take a look at what some top bloggers have done and see if there’s something that hasn’t been catered for which is in demand.
For example, some top bloggers in the make money online niche would assume that many know how to use an auto responder so they don’t go into detail the steps to using an auto responder.
You can start a blog explaining how this is done. I’m sure every day there are many newbies who go online to make money and they may not know how to use an auto responder.
A great idea need not be earth shatteringly new. It can be simple. As long as it meets a need, you have a great idea.
2. Choose a specific niche
Target your great idea to a specific niche and you’ll find that your blog will stand out from the crowd. In the auto responder idea, you might want to target those who are just starting out. You may want to explain to them what an auto responder is, how to use it, where they can get a good auto responder services and so on. These are very basic information which many newbies would appreciate.
3. Inject your personality
Let your personality shine through your blog posts. Don’t be afraid to upset anyone. It’s better to offend someone than risk being just another boring blogger. People may get insulted but they will not forget you.
Some political bloggers become popular because they’re not afraid to voice their opinions and let their personality show in their posts. They stepped on a few toes and make their blog more popular and stand out from the crowd.
Do something that fit your personality. Don’t be afraid to be nice either. If it’s uncomfortable for you to act like a jerk, be nice. Do what comes naturally to you.
It will take a bit of time and effort for a blogger to stand out from the crowd. But it can be done by finding a great idea and choosing a specific niche and most importantly infuse your personality into your blog posts.
