A cold relationship with your boss will make your office or work place a real hell for you. It may even damage your career. So, how can you be in the good books of your boss?
First thing, you should be honest, you must be loyal and you should have integrity. If it is not the case with you, it no use attempting to follow the points discussed here. If you lack the qualities mentioned above, you will not be able to be in the good books of your boss. You may have some initial success, but in the end the boss will know who you really are. One cannot fool anyone forever.
Show Respect to Your Boss
Showing due respect to one’s boss is the utmost necessary thing. Understand that you are not respecting the person, but his position. The boss may be younger than you. You may be having more experience in the organization than him. But remember that these are not sufficient reason to not show respect to your boss. Somehow he is better qualified than you, and that is why he is your boss. Keep that in mind always. Your boss expects some respect from you. Give him that and that will be the first step to be in the good books of your boss.
Be Very Punctual
Always reach your office before time. All bosses will appreciate that. Leave the office only after office hours. You may stay a little late at your office occasionally, doing some work. It need be for some ten minutes or so. Your boss will note that and he will be sure to appreciate that. If for some reason you are unable to reach office in time on some day, get the prior permission of your boss.
Do Something Extra
Always be ready to do something extra. Show readiness to take up works which you are not normally intended to do. The boss will see in you someone he can rely on. He will be happy to give you more responsibility.
Give Support to Your Boss
The boss wants all to support him. He needs your support to implement the policy of the organization. Give him necessary support.
Never Criticize Your Boss Openly
There may be areas where you cannot agree with your boss. You may have objection to some of his decisions. But never criticize him openly. No boss will like that. You can tell him what you have to in a personal meeting with him. Talk to him in a most respectful manner, explaining your point. He will surely understand you. He may even thank you for saving him from controversy.
Never Talk Ill of a Co-Worker
You should not talk ill of your co-worker to your boss. He may not like it. He may even think you are trying to gain some undue advantage. So refrain from that even if you don’t have a high opinion of any of your co-workers.
Praise Your Boss
Praise your boss (only moderately, please. Otherwise it will turn out to be flattery and may backfire) for a good action taken by him. Bosses yearn for praise as they may not be getting it from their higher officers.
