This was inspired by a number of things. I saw on the news about the mass suicide instigated by a cult leader. A few nights after a had a dream and soon wrote this peace. It’s also inspired by how we see ourselves. Yes, the world is a mess, but it can never be the way it should until we change ourselves, starting from the inside.
Hope Among the Ruins
Come to me, blessed moon,
Give me a time to croon.
Through this selfishness I find,
For me there is no time.
When all love is gone,
Carried away by the morn.
Caught it now in its flight.
Bring me back to its holy light.
Help me find hope among the ruins.
A gift to me, blessed moon.
Give me a moment that I seek.
Let me be one with thee.
When faith is strangled by the obsession
Of a killer in wait who refuses confession.
Give me the power to see myself.
In a cracked mirror, there is on one to help.
Bring back the maiden, shining and fair.
Give her more than a smile and that precious golden hair.
In that pale dress covered with lace,
Come to laugh, to dance in this glass case.
I asked the simple task, to find hope among the ruins.
The unselfish gift you bring me, dear moon.
The present is this moment I seek,
To be one with thee.
If time shall stop and be no more.
Memories of old, what are they for?
Outside a wood, we built our jail.
For the love of a civilized being, in this do we hail.
But for all these efforts in vanity’s name.
Our fate forevermore remains the same.
Death comes for all in a matter of time.
Safe in our graveyard, we stand in a line.
Will we ever find hope among the ruins?
A gift we happily accept, dear moon.
Giving us this moment we seek.
We have become one with thee.
