HOLY WEEK RECOLLECTION

Holy Week is just a week away and many of us are preparing to go on vacation or visit their hometown for those who work far from home, grabbing the opportunity of a long vacation. But how many of us are preparing for the true meaning of this Lenten season. Let me refresh you of what happened during the holy week in Jesus’ time.

Palm Sunday – This was when Jesus was riding on a colt entering Jerusalem while the people declaring him as their King. Can you imagine this? A king riding a colt? ? Jesus is our King, yet, when he entered Jerusalem, he was riding a colt and not some extravagant ride a king on this earth would do. How humbling could this be.

Monday – God went to the temple and found that the temple was almost a market place. Remember that this is the first temple built at the time of Solomon. On the day the temple was first dedicated to God, it dominated His glory. Seeing this scene made Jesus angry, the temple was supposed to be a place for prayer, a place where we can feed our soul and not a place for profit. .

Tuesday – Jesus teaches in the temple. “Remember the greatest commandment? Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul with all your mind and with all your strength." and the second greatest commandment “ Love your neighbour as you love yourself”. This is the day Jesus said this.

Wednesday – No account was written on this day. There were no records as what Jesus did on this day. But I believe, he still did something but was not accounted for. By faith lets just say, he wants a time for himself knowing his time is coming.

Thursday – This is the day of Jesus’ last supper. He chose to dine with his twelve disciples and took the bread and the wine. We all know what he said before taking the two because up to now, we all still practice this, save for non-christians. But do we really know and take heart the meaning of this?

Friday - This was the day where Jesus was betrayed, arrested, tried and killed. Imagine how heavy it was for our saviour knowing that his hour was coming. That he will be betrayed by one of His twelve. He died on the cross for our sins, but people did not know this. People did not know why our Christ chose to suffer on the cross.

Saturday – This is when the world seemed quiet because Jesus had died. But if we look deeper, Jesus went to the other world and fought for our sins. Jesus did not go there just dying. Jesus was on a battle while his body was dead. He waged war beneath there and emerged victorious. So you and I can go directly to paradise with him.

Sunday – He rose from the death and showed himself to his disciple to tell them the good news and spread it around the world, that he had conquered death. That he went to the other side of life and has overcome death. All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ as our personal saviour, repent, believe and follow his commandments.

Have a blessed Holy Week!
