Holiday Heart Syndrome What Is It? Holiday Heart is a medical condition where you an irregular heartbeat that is coming from when you overdue something around the holidays. It is more prevalent when you drink more alcohol then your body and system are used to. This will normally happen to people that have a healthy heart before this incident but just drink too much and it does cause stress on your heart.
It is also possible that it may happen if you eat too much food at the holidays that you are not used to eating that much. It is more likely to happen if you eat a lot of calories or a lot of foods that are quite high in sodium and that affects your heart. Although it is possible from food it does happen more when you drink the alcohol then when you eat food.
This can be a medical emergency because it may bring on a heart attack or even a stroke so if you are not sure and have a new symptom of chest pain or your heart is beating very fast then you should most definitely be checked out. It can also be a squeezing in your chest or pain in your arm or any classic heart symptom. Since heart disease is a big problem it is advisable to eat and drink in moderation not just at the holidays but year round so you do not develop this condition.
Most people will have this as a one time incident and will recover and be back to normal. If you have had this one time it will be quite scary for the person experiencing it and they will most likely be trying to avoid it happening again. It can not be predicted who will return to normal and who is going to suffer adverse health conditions so it is very important to get it checked out if you are in doubt.
