Guide to Finding the Right Person to Love and Keeping Them

Finding your love can be a waiting game. You can either actively search or they may just drop into your lap. The important thing is to know whether or not that person is right for you.

Despite what society says you should want in a partner, you should know very well who you want, right? It’s all about the interests. You should never pick someone because of looks. Remember, sooner or later a person will become old and you tend not to age too well. Unless you think old people are attractive, attraction will become less important in the long run.

If you are truly looking for someone for life, then you want that journey to be frictionless as possible. Remember, relationships will always have bumps in the road. There will be arguments, so pick someone you work well with. Opposites may attract, but they can also repel. Do you like videogames and they don’t? Well, you will be arguing all the time because of that, so do you really want to have to deal with that for the rest of your life? Remember the long run is what matters. Why waste your time with someone who is just for now when you can find someone for a more permanent as well as a more beneficial relationship?

Accept the fact that no one is perfect. Accept your faults and know your weaknesses. By realizing these two things you can save yourself a lot of heartache. Be adaptable. A relationship is all about compromising. If you can’t budge on certain issues, then make sure your partner won’t compromise those issues.

If your partner is having issues, make sure to talk with them. An open and trusting relationship will last much longer. Sure this sounds idealized, but honesty is the best policy. You don’t want your partner to make assumptions, for those tend to be wrong and can lead to problems. If you do end up in a heated argument, ask for a timeout. You don’t want to say anything that you might not mean. Anger will cloud your judgment, so try to keep a cool head. If you are cool but your partner is burning up, then still try to postpone the argument to let them gather their thoughts if possible.

Like with anything, the more things you know, the better it is for you. Try to set rules or something, so that you will understand what is important between yourselves. One person may find personal space important while the other cares more about relationship time. You never know until you ask.
