I don't profess to be a seasoned writer. I just stumbled upon this hobby by accident, or serendipity, through the indirect influence of an Indian friend, named Rathnashikamani, of Wikinut and Triond. I hadn't a clue where or how to start pushing my pen, so to speak, or how to go about animating a blank screen on my computer.
Because even though we know a little about the rudiments of writing, things we learned about grammar, espcially if English is a second language e.g. the agreement between subject and predicate, and so on -- the fact is we get stuck at first at the start.
We have to find this thing called "voice," dammit. But what is this animal?
I learned from word books that "voice" is our own confidence to speak out our thoughts and sentiments on the written page... and without the shyness associated with verbal social life. When you have found that voice, no matter "how alone you are in the wilderness of writing" then you are ready to express your opinions without fear and share your knowledge with the world with calm and ease. With condidence.
Then, be yourself and cultivate your own style of writing to find your niche. Which doesn't prevent you, of course, from taking a cue from the style of writing your favorite modern and classical authors adopted and which you find to your taste.
Be that as it may, let us proclaim our own uniqueness to the world, for each of us is different. Your brush stroke, your own ideas, no matter how depraved, speaks of the genius in you!
In writing our thoughts down on paper, let us have the courage of our conviction, too, short of shattering another's reputation because that is unpardonable, to be true to the emblem of responsible free speech, and also to forge friendship, and continue to make the world go round!
