As he watched the destroyed towers in Lebanon, it occurred to him to punish the Americans in the same way: to destroy towers in America.
Osama Bin Laden initially denied involvement in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 on the United States.
The attacks as we all know were carried out by hijacking four commercial passenger aircrafts and deliberately crashing three of them – two into the World Trade Center in New York City, and the destruction of The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia by the third aircraft. The end result was the deaths of 2,974 innocent people.
Osama bin Laden denied over and over again that he had no involvement in the attacks. He went as far as reading a statement on Al Jazeera five days after the attack denying responsibility for the September 11 attacks.
But then about three years later, something happened that made Osama bin Laden to abandon his denials of involvement in the September 11, attacks and accepting that he masterminded the attacks.
In 2004 Osama bin Laden made an eighteen minute video tape in which he stated that he had personally given orders to the nineteen hijackers to carry out the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. In the video Bin Laden also accused the then United States President George Bush of negligence on the attacks. This video was played on the popular news station Al-Jazeera four days prior to the American Presidential election. At that moment he probably thought that George Bush was his biggest problem and threat so he sought ways to get rid of him, hardly knowing the cause of his death would be seven years later from a man who almost shared a similar name with him Obama.
In the video released on Al-Jazeera, bin Laden said that it did not cross his mind to attack the World Trade Towers, but after he witnessed the unbearable injustice and tyranny of the American and Israeli alliance that brutalized the innocent people of Palestine and Lebanon he thought about attacking the United States. According to him, the straw that broke the camel’s back was the 1982 incident where America backed the Israelis to invade Lebanon. Osama bin Laden said that as he watched the American-Israeli alliance destroy towers in Lebanon, he decided to punish the Americans in just the same way. He said it was at this moment he decided he was going to destroy towers in the United States. According to him that was what led him to attack the United States.
