The video game “Gauntlet” was first introduced back in 1984 as an arcade game. It was a very big hit in arcades in my neighborhood. Up to four people could play at once. The characters offered were a warrior, an elf, a wizard, or a Valkyrie. It was fun for friends to play together.

Many years passed and finally it was rereleased on the Playstation2 system with improved graphics, but it was still the same game. Through the use of the multi-tap on the playstation2, up to four people can still play this game from the 80’s.

Produced my Midway Games, this ESRB game is rated T for Teen for blood and violence. Filled with monsters and undead foes on every level, this game has a feel to it that many gamers who have ever played the infamous RPG Dungeons and Dragons can relate to. This is a fun game that works on a basic level as an ESRB game format.

There is no custom building of your character but you can choose different color variations of the same character and improve statistics of characters.
In this new rerelease of the game you can play as other characters such as the Jester and a few others which can be unlocked as you play the game. It has an eerie feel to it with the horrific monsters and foes you face. Playing this game alone late at night might not frighten you, but it will surely entertain you.

Players have to stay together or else you cannot move on so it encourages you to work together as a team, thus promoting “Team work.” The graphics aren’t improved too much and the game still has a retro feel to it for those who love the 80’s. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this game as a 6 only because it is not as customizable as other ESRB games. I personally enjoy creating my own character or at least customizing it beyond the automatic level-up.

Gauntlet has since developed sequels games to the series. These games have yet to be reviewed by yours truly. I will be sure to do my best to find them all and review them for gamers who have not yet discovered this great fantasy game series.
