Fruit of a Blessed Man: Devotion for April 14, 2012

Text: Psalm 128:3 – Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house, your sons will be like olive shoots around your table (NIV).

There is reward everything we do here on earth. The reward comes in form of peaceful home, success in all endeavours, outstanding achievement, etc. These rewards from God follow us to eternity. Some are temporal while some are eternal. In eternity, He grants us far above eternal life and for the wicked more to suffering in hell.
The Psalmist in this text says a good family life is a reward for following and serving God faithfully. What in your mind led to this statement? In the scriptures, we have values that helps strengthen relationship in the family. They include love, service, honesty, integrity, study of God’s word, prayer, trustworthiness, faith, etc. They are vital in our lives at home. With these, you will enjoy the bliss of marriage in the family as God intended it.
In this text, the Psalmist said a blessed family is a family where the wife is, as a fruitful vine and children as olive shoots. Treasury of David commentary has something worth taking note of. “It says Good wives are also fruitful in kindness, thrift, helpfulness, and affection: if they bear no children, they are by no means barren if they yield us the wine of consolation and the clusters of comfort. Truly blessed is the man whose wife is fruitful in those good works which are suitable to her near and dear position.” Though being fruitful is the dream of every man, but when children had not come, its absence should not take away the bliss of the home.
Is your home blissful? Is your family heaven on earth? What is your relationship with your spouse, children, etc? Do you as the father of the house obey God before you will complain that your children do not obey? As the head of the house, you need to set good example in your family so that God will bless you and make your home blissful. (Please look for the book, “The key To A Blissful Marriage” and read it. It will help you build your home).

Food For Thought: A blissful home is a product of obedience and love.

Prayer Points:
1) Thank God for your family
2) Pray that everyone in your family will live according to the will of God.
3) Ask God for a blissful home and to restore peace to families in problem
