The practice as discussed in this topic is part of mankind's perpetual death wish, and goes hand-in-hand with taxation, usury, and profiteering, all of them breeding violence, crime and wars.
So then, what is happening when a hard-working and ambitious young man embarks on taking on his first mortgage on a home for the shelter of his growing family? Firstly, he commits himself to 25 years of monthly payments. By the time his family has grown up and become self-supporting, he has paid back to the bank the value of his house 4 times over due to banking usury. In other words: The property gained the banker 4 houses from one labourer! One could even say: 5 houses, because the initial credit advanced was generated by the stroke of a pen at the time of his initial indebtedness to the bank!
In the course of time that debt nets our young man worry of a potential layoff from his profession, which would result in the loss of his home. Society would then lose the real value he is creating by his labour participation, leaving him perpetually cash-strapped, yet all the while he needs the money to properly support his growing family, and this slavish way of "holding down a job" gains him a near heart attack from hypertension, which is discovered and treated way too late.
Finally his wife dies, and his poor physical health results in the loss of his middle-class income. The expenses in terms of property tax, utilities and upkeep on his paid-off house exceeds his income from alternative sources. Then he puts the house up for sale to move into a rental location.
Now comes the clincher: while the sale nets our friend the financial value of one house, the banker on the other hand has received the value of five houses in dollar-for-dollar terms, with the potential for 10 houses upon the completion of 2nd generation ownership! TWO PEOPLE SLAVE AWAY FOR 50 YEARS, BOTH TRYING TO OWN ONE HOUSE IN THE END, AND DURING THAT SHORT SPACE OF TIME EARNED THE BANKER THE VALUE OF 10 HOUSES, HE WILL NEVER NEED!. If that is not called criminal activity, then I don't know what is!
In all final analysis it must be said that society, labouring under that defunct system of corruptedness, became ill from it, and the people began to conduct bank robberies, drug smuggling, prostitution, alcohol addictions, family break-ups, homelessness, public unrest for higher pay, AIDS, suicides, and strife beyond its national boundaries with other nations - called "wars."
And the banker loved all of it, for in that he had found a way of not only effective "population control," but personal enrichment beyond even his own wildest dreams.
Do the people fleeced in this manner get a "thank you" for making him so rich? Not really. Truth is, behind closed doors all bankers sneer at the stupidity of the (.....).
