There is probably not one person in the world who doesn’t want to be accepted and loved by their peers. But some people inevitably don’t seem to fit in. For years, they ask themselves why, and wonder what they’re doing wrong. Of course, you shouldn’t change your personality just to be popular, but there are a few general tips that you can follow, which might just get you that attention you want.
1. Be clean.
There’s nothing to turn off potential friends like an unhygienic appearance. Take a shower every day and change your clothes regularly. If you feel clean, you automatically feel better about yourself, which in turn will make you appear more attractive to others. If you need more tips on hygiene, read my other article about hygiene at http://expertscolumn.com/content/hygiene-sports-failsafe-ways-keep-clean .
2. Be trendy.
Although it’s not necessary to follow each newest trend and get the most expensive clothes, appearance is important to some extent. If you wear old-fashioned or out-of-style clothes, people are more likely to find you weird. Of course, it’s what’s inside that really counts, but your appearance does reflect your character! Look around you and try to dress in a way you feel comfortable, but that also reflects your surroundings.
3. Be nice.
Although some people would argue that the “bitchy” or the “macho” types are most popular, being nice to others does help. You don’t want to be just popular, you also want to be liked for who you are. If people realize you are an authentic, kind and generous person, they are much more likely to approach you and make friends with you.
4. Boost up your Confidence.
Oftentimes, the reason why someone isn’t popular is because they don’t believe in themselves. This may have many reasons, most stemming from childhood or prior experiences – but don’t worry, it can be helped! If you are shy and self-conscious, use a controlled environment to start interacting more with others – for example, attending some sort of class will give you a starting point for conversations, and make you interact with the people there in a way you might be more comfortable with. Gradually, you’ll feel more confident around people even outside that environment.
5. Make Yourself Interesting
Starting a new hobby also has another function: making yourself appear more interesting to other people. Nobody wants to hang out with a couch potato. So, get out there, do something fun, something you are passionate about. If you start an activity, such as dance or sports, you’ll appear more interesting, and you’ll have something to talk about with new friends!
So, follow these tips and see whether they have an effect on your social life. And remember, just be the smart, funny and awesome person you are!
