Five Tips for Successful Blogging

Here are a few tips that I learned over the past year about blogging. These tips are essential in starting and maintaining your blog. This will also help build momentum. I would like you to please provide some feedback or additional information once you have read over these tips.

TIP 1: Drafts

Creating drafts of your future posts, collect data and information related to your niche. Your blog will fail if you get off topic and start writing blogs on topics which are kinda outside of your niche. Remember that the audience that you have built are their because they are attracted wot what you have written. Keeping drafts will help you stay organized and will help you review your work and get back on track.

TIP 2: Updated RSS Feeds

Keep an eye on feeds surrounding your niche. What this will do is provide you with up to date content for your site. Only read RSS feeds that are relevant to your blog content. Keep in mind that blogs are updated faster and sooner then news sites, so get a hold of the most recent content and get it posted immediately.

TIP 3: Build Relationships With Your Reader

Every reader that ha left a comment on your blog, subscribe to their site or even email them. What this will do it allow the reader to feel important and will let him know this his input is appreciated. Now remember, writing a blog is like a job and people that work for you can be the ones commenting on your blog. At work if their is no employee appreciation, they will not put 100% effort into their work. So on your blog, the ones that don't feel appreciated will not return.

TIP 4: Be Available To Your Reader

Keep in contact with your reader. This is different then TIP 3 because what will happen is that being accessible will allow the reader to actually ask you to write topics or explain things clearer. For example, the ones that regularly read my articles and are on my blog, I have added to Yahoo Messenger. I keep in touch with them.

TIP 5: Either Focus On Breaking News Or Pillar Posts:

If you follow point 1 and 2 you’ll realize there are two types of post you can do. Break news or write Pillar post. Breaking news is hard you’ll need to watch your Rss feeds like a hawk, it has a few advantages, if its important news it will get picked up easily by other blogger. Writing Pillar post will make your article sticky, most of the traffic that I get are from my pillar posts.

Characteristics of pillar articles:
they are longer posts
usually above 750 words
they offer a clear value to the reader
their content is timeless
their content is original and unique
they outline the expertise of the writer around a specific topic
they attract links from other bloggers
