For your blog posts to remain relevant and readable a long time after you post them, you need to know how to create timeless blog content. Blog posts based on news or current events may generate an initial frenzy of traffic, but this will soon fizzle out when the information is no longer relevant. The same thing applies to blogs that are mainly focused on current happenings and news. When you fail to update the blog on a daily or consistent basis the blog would quickly lose its relevance and readership base.
Here are 5 simple and practical ways to create timeless content that people will continue to read long after you post them.
1. Refrain from using words related to time: some words such as recently, today and yesterday are time related and convey the idea of a specific time. Phrases such as this month and this week also fall into this category of words you should avoid. When a reader comes across words or phrases like these, it will make them associate the content with a particular time. The reader may thus conclude that the information contained is out of date and no longer of value.
2. Place post dates at bottom of posts: The usual convention is to place the date that the blog content was posted at the top of the article. After a while this may however give some readers the impression that the post was written way back and it may discourage them from reading it. To avoid that, it helps to place the dates underneath the posts so that readers get to see it only after reading and benefiting from the post.
3. Do not use calendars: A number of blogs have calendars on the sidebars. This feature may be beneficial if your blog content is time related. For example, if your post is about a sequential train of related events such as a journey or a competition, the calendar can help readers track the posts based on dates. Many blogs contain content that are however not time related. It thus does not help to have a calendar that allows readers click on a particular date to see what you posted on that day.
4. Do not use monthly archives: the same reasoning behind why the calendar has to go is also the same reason why you should not use monthly archives. Most readers will avoid clicking on past months to read what you posted, because they believe those posts to be old and thus no longer valuable. Having some topics and titles listed on the sidebar will be more effective in getting readers to check out your other articles.
5: Give Value: the main reason why people will take the time to read your posts is to get information or valuable content. If you make it a habit to always deliver value then your content will always remain valuable and timeless to your readers. The same is true when you are also writing on something related to current events or news. Try and add a bit of valuable information that will still make the post valuable and informative months after. Value can include provision of cross reference or a thorough analysis of the
