Filipino Tradition: Fire Cracker Victims during December

Filipino Tradition is to buy different kinds of Firecrackers because it is already a myth (a tradition also) that the ending of the month of December New Year are a meaningless if there are no noises came from the firecracker blasting shots.

Everyone wishes to have the most loudest blasting firecracker will be the victor, and to make it more exciting, they used to tied-up all of the firecracker thread ends in a hundreds (like a chain) to make it rapid blasting of a hundred Triangles with a single Camara on its end (as the last but the most loudest banging sounds that people heard).

Many of the poor people, even though having no money in their pocket, but still they are forced to buy firecrackers (as one of the myth believers) but, it’s a big chances for those firecrackers to cut our finger or fingers…

I never dream to buy firecrackers of any kind, because my fingers are very important, I need to write some more articles, and our fingers are the most important body parts that the computer keyboard needs.

Even those people that never buy or engage on blasting firecrackers can be a victim too if not aware of their surroundings, just like Christopher (a friend of mine) is a victim of a firecracker too by just picking an un-blasted Camara (one of the dangerous type of firecracker) that is scattered on the ground, left unattended, and when he pick up because he is sure that this unblasted Camara didn’t blast for more than 2 hours, but still too late to shocked when that thing blasts on his hands.

I am sure that he is aware that it is not a good idea, but whoever expects that those garbage un-blasted firecracker will blast?

That even didn’t blast for the whole night and when you pick up that thing on the morning; it is very possible capable of blasting. But if you are a victim, just cover the cuts, bruises, or lacerations with a simple cloth while bringing to the nearest hospital to clean it and dressed by the medical doctors.

If you know how to first aide, you may have to apply a pressure so that the bleeding stops temporary.

A vaccine to tetanus toxoid is a must because we are not sure that a victim has a tetanus but not yet activated and that stay for 1 to 30 days on skin, and if enters to the nerve then a possible to travel until reaching brain produces cramps

Some of the poor family here in our place is for them to wait it for three days and that is the time to send to hospital but this is a very bad practice, a very bad idea, and the situation becomes more worst than ever.

How about to wet all of the surrounding areas where there are plenty of un-blasted firecrackers before sweeping the house surroundings (especially during January 1 in the morning), another reason to lessen to become a possible victim?

The most common firecrackers that the Filipinos are into are:
1. Triangle – a triangular shaped firecracker
2. Camara – a cylinder cone shaped firecracker
3. Belong-Belong – a giant Triangle, very deadly
4. Baby Camara – a small sized Camara

Don’t dare let the children allow to pick-up unblasted firecrackers even if already passed 24 hours, treat them like a very old vintage bomb.

A list of emergency number is a must, so that whenever emergency comes, a handy list is always available, that even if you already memorized it, but if you are into a panic state, you will possibly forget it all, and to be sure that the emergency list and the telephone device are stick to each other.
