Too early to declare Germany as a possible winner
Euro 2012 soccer has reached an excited stage at present as half of the group matches are already over. Germany looks like winning the cup without any serious difficulty at this stage. It has won both the matches it has played – against Portugal and Netherlands. But it is still too early to talk about the cup winner with another six group matches to go and then the knock out matches to follow suit. Teams like Spain, France, Russia, England and Italy may challenge Germany in the later part of the tournament
Suspense will last till the third round
Group A has seen the toughest fighting among Poland, Poland, Greece and Czech Republic for the seat in quarter final. But it looks though that Greece has little chance to make it to the knockout stage. Greece has only a slim theoretical chance of making it but it can spoil Russia’s chances by defeating it or even drawing with it. The suspense is going to last till the third round results.
Portugal and Germany are the favourites from Group B
In Group B, Germany is the clear favourite and leader and it will enter the knockout stage without any difficulty from hereon. Holland has no practical chances to make it and can book its flight to Amsterdam. If Holland wants to qualify, it has to win Portugal by a large margin in its third group match. Portugal or Denmark will enter the quarter final based on their third round matches. Portugal can enter the quarter final after defeating Holland. But Denmark has the unenviable task of beating Germany. At this stage, Germany and Portugal are the clear favourites to make it to the quarter final.
Spain and Italy may qualify from Group C
Croatia tops Group C but it has two matches against tough opponents namely Spain and Italy. Italy and Spain have equal points and will have to play against Croatia and Republic of Ireland in the third round. Republic of Ireland is not expected to offer a tough fight but Croatia will not give up so easily. Italy and Spain are likely to qualify but Croatia may upset their plans and may be the dark horse. Republic of Ireland has lost its chances because of its defeat against Croatia.
England and France are the favourites
From Group D, England, France may qualify, Both Sweden and Ukraine can upset their plans. Ukraine leads the group by virtue of its victory against Sweden. Both Ukraine and Sweden cannot be taken lightly. But one can confidently say that England and France have better chances to make it to the knockout stage.
