Friday November 18, 2011 was the last day for the popular television show, Live! With Regis and Kelly. This is a sad day for morning television viewers. Regis and the combination of Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will be sorely missed.

Today Regis was honored for his 995,600 minutes of time on television. He did a total of about 17,000 shows. He has indicated that he is retiring; but he still will be "around". His wife believes that he won't be able to just sit around the house and will continue to work somewhere in some capacity. Although the show has ended, a new show will be taking its place.

The new show on ABC will be, at least for the time being, Live! With Kelly. Kelly Ripa will continue on the show as host. The show has been cleared to run through 2017. When a co-host is chosen, the show will change it name accordingly. It appears that some popular folks from the entertainment world will fill in for Philbin until someone permanent is selected. The first celebrity to appear on November 21, as co-host, will be Jerry Seinfeld. He is scheduled for the first three days of the program. Kelly, a ten year veteran of the show, and Jerry Seinfeld should make a great team as the show kicks off. According to the LA Times on November 1, in a statement from executive producer, Michael Gelmin, "Jerry is a great friend of ours, and a friend of Kelly’s, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s an entertainment icon.”

Without Regis Philbin on the set it may be difficult for the show to get good ratings; however starting out with a seasoned comedian like Seinfeld, ABC will have a good chance to keep the new show a popular choice on morning television. Neil Patrick Harris has been mentioned to follow Jerry Seinfeld as a co-host. It will be interesting to watch to see how Kelly's personality will gel with whoever ends up replacing Regis Philbin. The lucky person to replace Philbin will have some pretty big shoes to fill.
