The era of Social Media has swept across the entire world for quite a time now. and I think it will stay a little longer before it may gradually be replaced by robotic craze in the near future! (how I wish id be able to witness that!) As long as these things are patronized they’ll never get out of the scene, right? So let me share to you my few thoughts about the social media’s role to the teens, with the inclusion of myself of course.
Social Media, like any other things in this world, produces pros and cons. But I’ll be discussing about the pros first. The main purpose of Social Media is obviously to SOCIALIZE in the easiest and most convenient way possible. A click, on the mouse, a soft press on the keyboard or a touch of a finger on your technologically advance touch screen phones could go a long, long way. You don’t need to go through the hassle of buying mail stamps, envelopes and walking to the post office just to send a message. Less expensive and it is way faster than snail mails, and we’re not just speaking of local areas but entirely the whole world is connected with you through various applications like BBM, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, etc. Making friends and of course organizing parties and meetups have never been easier. “Hay tag me on that photo, okay?” as most teens would say! Social media has been a great and fastest a source of news too, sports, business, economy and weather forecasts for an instance! It bridges gaps between distant people like your loved ones who live miles away from you. I am able to know happenings from our school right away because of social networking sites. But what makes social media an interesting piece for me is that I get to follow celebrities without creeping them out through twitter, and sometimes they’d tweet me back too! Those are just some of the pros of Social media.
Now going to the negative side: yes social media is like a drug to most teenagers. It lessens our time for physical interaction with family and friends. Some people would just sit in front of the computer for a day. Some are deprived from sleep not because of home works but because of Twitter. Scams and worst even deaths have been identified with the improper use of social media. It’s because you don’t get to meet all the people you talk to over the web, so you must bear in mind not to trust easily. An excessive use of anything can be so dangerous so we must take into consideration the things that we need to compromise. Limitations and discipline should always be present, we must always be aware of the consequences of our actions not only in terms of the social media but in all life’s aspects. Be wise.
