I play World of Warcraft since its beginning and I always wonder why some players have problems getting enough gold for items, mounts and other things.
This simple guide is based on my experience. And believe me, I have a lot of it.
In the first year, I made every mistake that a World of Warcraft player can make:
I shopped the Auction House frequently for clothes or vanity pets. I had professions like tailoring to tailor my priest the latest dresses and I learned enchanting for improving my items.
Do you see the first flaw in this? If you tailor your own clothes and enchant them PLUS shop in the auction house like a maniac, you change your gear faster than you probably level up. Thus, burning money (or gold) is the only thing you do.
Furthermore, enchanting is one of the most expensive professions as you need many shards and dusts. for that, you use worn gear instead of selling it. And worse: Many enchanters buy green or blue items just for leveling their profession!
Now, where do you expect to EARN gold?
It does not work that way, that's for sure.
So, here are my six simple tips with which you will have 4,000 gold ready by the time you reach level 40 very easily - if you follow this plan!
Rule 1:
When starting new on a server, choose your first character wisely. Choose a class that does not use extraordinary gear to level quickly. My favourites are priest (shadow for fast mana regeneration, no mana breaks) and druid (feral in cat form). Of course, this is not binding. But I find it harder to level a warrior for example, as they heavily depend on strenght and agility for making damage.
Rule 2:
Use an add-on like Auctioneer. Scan the auction house a couple of times before posting items, e.g. 2 or 3 times per day for 2 or 3 days before starting. Then you can see the worth of each item in the auction house.
Rule 3:
Do not buy green items from the auction house. You will not need them and they will become obsolete and old very quickly! From level 20 on, you may invest some very few golds in blue or violet items. But only if you KNOW that it is a bargain and if the stats are extraordinary and will suffice for some levels!
Rule 4:
Try to sell everything on the auction house. The only items you do not need to put up are all grey and some white items. When Auctioneer shows a value for white items or you know that they are needed in a quest or for a profession: Put them up!
Rule 5:
The best time to put up auctions is Friday afternoon until Friday evening. Let the auctions run for 48 hours to cover the whole weekend. There are more players online on weekends.
Avoid the days with server maintenance, e.g. Tuesday in the USA and Wednesday in Europe. It is like EBay, think smart!
Rule 6:
Choose your professions wisely:
Secondary professions like cooking, first aid and fishing waste your time and your gold. You may skill them when you are bored with your first level 80 character ;-)
Choose one profession from the following: herbalism or mining. Plus learn skinning.
This combination rocks, because: You can only see one helper on your mini map, either for herbalism or for mining. Do not learn both of them with the same character! The skinning is extremely handy as you will kill so many animals for quests, you will not have to worry where to skill or farm it. It just "happens" as a side effect.
Remember to put up all your findings in the auction house!
That was already it. Pretty simple, right?
I can almost guarantee you the gold which you will make with this... and the best of it: it works on all servers, even on most private servers!
