Distractions can be anything. In the Internet, if not dear friends or online games, it is always a lovely website. My distraction back then was StumbleUpon. Not only that I have wonderful friends there, I usually waste my time collecting photos and GIF images. I have managed to create a beautiful blog at StumbleUpon until the site changed its features on October 24, 2011. Categorian has become a new home for me. It was then that I realized my real purpose in the Internet – to write and earn.
Making money through online writing is never easy. It is not the same as writing for publishing companies. While regular magazine writers or newspaper columnists receive their monthly salary, article contributors collect compensations according to the editor’s condition.
In online writing, the money earned by the writer is usually based upon the hits of his article. He is not generally paid in advance but gets more reward in the future if his article becomes recognized. Ideally, quality articles which are interesting, factual and helpful get more attention. However, any article can also be exposed through bookmarking, promotion and creating backlinks.
Writing and promoting – simple steps to succeed
Earning money through online writing may sound natural by following two steps – (1) write more then (2) promote. However, sticking to reality, we all know that writing a good article can take hours or a day. Some articles that require thorough research can take as long as three days. There are talented writers who can produce good articles with limited time. Dedicated writers may also develop the craft. With hardwork and practice it can possible to publish good articles a day.
Promoting can use a lot of time too. Either we share them at Facebook, StumbleUpon or Tweet our works; we must first build our circle of friends and followers. Building our links at bookmarking sites like Digg, Pintrest, Delicious etc. requires time.
The bottom line
Every second shouldn’t be wasted. If one would want to be successful writing online, he shouldn’t be distracted by anything. Instead of playing some games, gawking on photos or creating a blog full of nonsense, an online writer who wants to earn more should busy himself writing if not promoting his articles.

Yes, the internet is a massive source of distractions. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better to block internet access when writing.
