One of the benefits of socializing with educated people is that I can learn something very valuable to me and my family. To learn more, I not only listen to them but ask questions as well. If I am interested in the topic, I never want to miss out on it and ask as many questions as possible.

One of our new neighbors is a general practitioner who works for one of the private hospitals. We often meet at least once a week and she had the opportunity to talk about eating and drinking as this topic is to most housewives. “If we want to lose weight, we have to drink a lot of water right after eating our meals,” she said, introducing herself to us all. It is a custom in our neighborhood that all new neighbors should tell about their families. As she is a doctor, she used the opportunity to mention that in order that other neighbors some of health aspects.

As I am interested in the topic, I then asked her why drinking after eating can make us lose our weight. Her statement about drinking a lot after eating was actually contradictory to what I know. A friend of mine, who is a health-conscious woman, told me that had to drink 2 hours before and after meals because if you drink water right after meals, the body will first absorb the water. As a result, some of food you eat remains unabsorbed or imperfectly digested. Drinking water 2 hours and 2 hours after eating will enable the digestion system to work perfectly. As regard to my question to the doctor, she told us that not all your foods will become energy source—carbohydrate, fat, and so on but rather some of it will be wasted and become feces. “We can lose weight by eating less but most of us tend to eat more. So, drinking a lot after eating seems preferable,” she explained.

I still feel that drinking 2 hours before and after meals is preferred by me as I have applied that many times. I will still have to find out more about what our new neighbor explained. I hope that drinking a lot after eating will make me lose weight is true.
