If you are into an activity that you do everyday. A routine that you do over and over again. Isn't it that you have already acquired the mastery and expertise because you're over doing it?
But if there's a new activity that you're unfamiliar with, something that alienates you. Then more likely, you'll initially commit repeated mistakes before you figure it out and do it right.
To the creatives, pioneers, inventors and innovative minds. They use this situation to leverage their intuitive minds. Because of repeated errors, they generate new theories and new ideas with it.
Most of the common and conventional minds think that failures and mistakes are useless and what really matters is for us to reach success. Though success should be the end results, we should also give importance and recognition to the other side of the spectrum which are failures and mistakes.
Actually, failures and mistakes has an essential and important role in our lives. It tells us what should be the right next step. It leads us to the right direction.
If there is an activity we routinely do everyday,we aren't aware much about it because nothing wrong is happening. For example, you are driving a car that runs smoothly. Isn't it that we aren't so aware about it because everything is okay?
But if that car you are driving suddenly had a flat tire, then it's the time that you'll be aware about it. It the time we're you do some actions to resolve the problem. You'll only notice the things you used to take for granted when something that is wrong occurred.
That's the principle of Negative Feedback. It means the current approach isn't working and not effective, that's why you need to to find a new way to get things done right.
Just like inventors and innovators, we learn from our mistakes. We gain wisdom through trial and error rather than trial and correctness.
If everything we do is always right, there's no need to change. And because these things doesn't need to change, there will be mediocrity, lack of innovation and creativity.
This principle is also applicable and comparable on employees and entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are willing to take the risk and repeatedly fail for the aim for eventual success, while employees don't want to leave their comfort zone and engage a Lifetime of routinary corporate slavery and mediocrity.
We should give importance for our failures and mistakes because they are a great teacher and motivator. They are our "rude awakenings" for us to be better, strive for excellence and ultimately, success.

I believe everything happens for a reason, and I pay close attention to those happenings. Call it intuition or just knowing, but it helps guide me the right ways in life. People should pay closer attention to signs, I believe they are of much benefit. Good column.
