Target of 166 Proved Too Much For RCB
Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a blitzkrieg from KKR bowler Balaji that bowled his side to a scintillating and commanding victory over the home side RCB yesterday. KKR set a target of 166 which proved too difficult for the RCB which caved in to 123 for 9 in the 20 overs. Predictably, Balaji bagged the man-of-the-match award.
Gambhir Plays a Captain’s Knock
Gautam Gambhir played a captain’s knock of 64 off 39 balls with 9 fours and a six and set the ball rolling. Bisla contributed 46 off 29 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. RCB’s bowlers had in impact on these two batsmen.
Vital Blows by Balaji in Every Over He Bowled
RCB never applied its mind to chasing the set target. Instead of producing useful partnerships, their batsmen threw their wickets one after other. Balaji produced a wicket maiden over and struck vital blows in every over he bowled. Shakib Al Hasan played his first match during the current IPL and contributed usefully with bagging two wickets.
Costly Mistake of Omissions in the Opening Match
KKR enjoyed its first victory in the current IPL season. In their opening match against Delhi Daredevils at Eden Garden, KKR made the costly mistake of not including Balaji and Shakib Al Hasan in the side and paid the price for it. Jacques Kallis got two wickets giving away only 7 runs in his two overs. Kallis and de Villiers put on 60 runs partnership for the first wicket. Afterwards, de Villiers and Gambhir added another 65 runs for the second wicket. That laid a rock solid base for the KKR to capitalise.
Chris Gayle Disappoints
Chris Gayle played at last and one expected a blitzkrieg from him. But he disappointed the crowd by departing early. RCB’s other superstars Gayle, Virat Kohli, de Villiers and Daniel Vettori also failed. But de Villiers cannot be blamed because the deliver he received from Balaji was a beauty. After pitching, the ball straightened and de Villiers was clean bowled. Balaji’s other wickets were Virat Kohli, Daniel Vettori and Mayank Agarwal.
Fastest 50 in the Current IPL
Gautam Gambhir pounded the RCB bowling with ease. The first half century for KKR was scored from only 31 balls. This was the fastest first half century for a side in the current tournament till date. After two solid partnerships that took the score at one stage to 125 for 1, KKR should have produced more than 200 runs in its allotted 20 overs. But RCB restricted it to 165.
