It is important that both children and adults receive particular attention when talking about diseases. Children as well as working adults need protection from getting infected with diseases. However, children are more vulnerable to any forms of diseases compared to adults. Adults are more resistant to common diseases because they already have developed stronger immune system. Thus children need more special attention as to giving importance in considering disease infections than adults.

AIDS, for example was originally viewed as a disease afflicting only homosexual men and intravenous drug user or simply adults. However, according to Oxford University Press, in the United States alone, AIDS cases among children have increased up to approximately 20,000 cases in 1998. As the disease continues to spread not only on adults but also on children, social welfares are stressed to deal with such a wide range of new public problems.

The moral and ethical sides of this problem would tackle as to how these innocent children got this “adult” disease. One particular consideration could be the total denial of the parents who could be the carrier of this disease. Social welfares play an important factor in addressing this problem by giving them assessment and awareness of its risks and any possible remedy.

The battle over diseases like AIDS among children has been one of the main concerns of the social welfare officers. They are to come up with a strong public policy to confront this rising and nearly epidemic disease. If not properly addressed, this problem would continue not only to compromise the whole country’s health and safety condition, but the economic situation as well.

The economic impact of this issue happens when more children are getting sick due to the improper treatment and negligence. As a result, more adult people especially family members and the caretakers would be intervened from their usual endeavor in order to pay much closer attention on the sick children. Having sick children at home affects the family both emotionally and financially. More families suffering from this kind of problem will have an impact on the economy of the whole country.
