Disc Desiccation is when your discs that are located in your back or neck start to drying up and may at this point start to cause you pain in your back or neck wherever your desiccated disc is. Normally this will happen as a degenerative process that is going on in your spine and is mostly happening in people that are age 50 and older and the aging is taking a toll on your back and your body. This does not happen to everyone though as they get older and it is more common though as you age.
This is not only something that happens to people over 50 years of age though this very much can and does happen to people of any age. The people that do have this condition and are younger have usually suffered a trauma to their back or neck which was fairly bad or may have not seemed that bad at the time but the condition happened many years later. This can happen due to a car accident that you may have then this can appear years later and you are very much not expecting it because you may have thought you were fine at the time.
The pain from disc desiccation can be different kind of pain for each person suffering from it and some may only have mild pain while others with this condition will have severe pain where the the disc dessication is. When you have this often painful spine problem it is most often a progressive problem that will normally get worse as time goes on.
Disc desiccation is diagnosed most commonly through an MRI or CT scan which is very well visualized on these most valuable tests. The treatment is dependent on how severe the disc dessication has progressed and then the treatment is most commonly decided from there as to how to treat this medical condition. These most commonly include medications, physical therapy, chiropratic, water therapy and if it severe and not responding to non surgical treatment then surgery will be needed to fix it.
