There are different ways through which water contamination can happen. The most common ways of polluting the vital liquid can be: industry, homes and agriculture. The impact of the polluting agents on nature is big and many people are not even aware that they cause harm. There are ways for decreasing the damage.

The industrial harm is caused in three ways. The first method is direct disposal of waste, which can cause a bad odor. The second way is the emission of toxic substances into the air, which can cause acid rains. Thermal pollution is another thing that can harm the environment. The most common way of polluting the water surface is through the chemicals that are released into the ground, or in drain systems, intentionally, or by accident.

Surface water pollution affects all types of wet environments, such as oceans, rivers, or lakes. The pollution can also come through oxygen depletion. When too much biodegradable materials are added in the water, the microorganisms that feed these materials increase and consume all the oxygen, creating the proper environment for other microorganisms, which can pollute the water.

Some microorganisms that are ingested by animals through drinking can make the animals ill. Humans and fish can also get diseases from bacteria, viruses, or protozoa. Cholera is one of the serious illnesses that can be given by microorganisms living in water.

Many individuals use the liquid sources from the soil and create wells. Sometimes even the wells can be polluted, because the soils through which they flow can become polluted themselves. Usually, pesticides can cause problems of this type. Also, dues to waste disposal, various nutrients can reach the drinkable sources, creating excess algae and clog filters can be contaminated.

Too much algae can have a negative impact on the oxygen levels and this can affect marine life. Some materials do not dissolve and gather at the surface of the rivers or lakes, causing problems to aquatic life. Water contamination exists due to industrial and agricultural waste disposal and various other reasons. The environment and the life on this planet are suffering because of these polluting agents.
