Dark Shadows 60's Vampire Series Made into Movie

Vampire stories have fascinated viewers for decades. One program that was very popular in the 1960's was a soap opera series based on vampires called, "Dark Shadows". Researching the program, it was for the generations of that era like Vampire Diaries, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, HBO's True Blood or the movie Twilight is to young adults today. Dark Shadows was one of the most ambitious programs during early TV.

The lead vampire in the original Dark Shadows was the character Barnabas Collins. In the new version of Dark Shadows made into a feature film, Johnny Depp plays the character. The original actor was a frightful looking Jonathan Frid. The production was very effective screamer in part to the acting and the wonderful black and white filming, at least many my parent’s age tell me. I have included a preview of Dark Shadows the movie that uses stills of the actors playing the original roles and pictures of the original cast members where you can witness the dark look of the set design and makeup. It is far cry away from what today's pretty boy look and high quality color filming the mystery horror will be.

The original Dark Shadows aired from June 1966 to April 1971 and created by Dan Curtis who died in 2006 at the age of 79. He was mostly known for his creations Winds of War and War and Remembrance. Rumor is that Johnny Depp was so intrigued with Barnabas Collins that he was obsessed with being like him. With that in mind, look at a re-run of Dark Shadows and if you have seen any of Johnny Depp’s movies, compare is persona and or acting to that of the vampire character Barnabas Collins. I have and now I’m beginning to see not only a resemblance in his character player in some of his movies, I see a strong connection in the effectiveness of portraying a dark character in the Depp and Jonathan Frid.
