History

Cumin has been used for several thousand years as an herb and for cooking. It's usually used with other herbs such as curry in many dishes. It is commonly used by many of the Mediterranean countries. It has been a part of these countries and their medicine and cooking since before bible times.

Uses

Cumin is used in a lot of different ways but is most used to aid digestion. It is good as a general tonic to help boost the immune system as well. It helps to increase the metabolism and help with the digestion of foods. It also helps to increase the liver's ability to remove toxins from the body.

In cooking it is a great herb for meat. Chicken and beef cooked with cumin is a great flavorful meal. When added to chili it adds a flavor that is easily identified. It can even be added to stir fries and potato salad for increased flavor.

Growing

Cumin is a simple plant to grow but needs to be planted as soon as possible. it is usually planted right after all signs of the last frost has past. Some even prefer to plant it indoors and then transplant it after the last frost. It also needs direct sunlight and can grow to heights of 12 inches or taller.

Cumin is a good herb to have in the kitchen for cooking or medicine. Try some on your foods and you will find a lot of uses for it. Many people in India and Asia use cumin in a lot of their foods as well.

I have never seen cumin grown but I use it often.

When we boil water for drinking we add a little cumin.

Thanks for the information, Pradeep. I've heard people make a tea out of it, but I haven't tried it yet. I use it in my homemade tacos and chili.
