In Croatia there are seven necionalnih parks, which are: Brijuni, Krka, Mljet, Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica and Northern Velebit. In this article you’ll learn something more about them.
Brijuni islands: Brijuni are a group of 14 islands and islets, located near the town of Pula. Brijuni Islands are known for their well-preserved vegetation and safari park with various species of animals. There is also inhabited by various sea animals. As the man stayed on them yet os Middle Neolithic, Brijuni valuable historic and cultural heritage.
Krka: Krka river in the karst is certainly the most amazing, is known for its waterfalls and developed as in lakes, deposition of travertine, a special kind of limestone. Krka goes to Prukljansko gradually and then passes into the lake, and later in the deep bay. Next to it are located two historic towns of Knin and Sibenik. Among the numerous waterfalls are the Skradinski buk and Roski slap between which the river forms lakes of small islet Visovac, in which is frenjevačka church and monastery.
Mljet: Mljet is an island located at the south end-Croatian, west of the famous Croatian tourist resort of Dubrovnik. The island is famous for two narrow bay, which is due to the narrow connection with the sea and lakes. The island abounds with lush vegetation, and cultural heritage. On middle of the lake, on an island is also a complex of the Benedictine monastery from the 12th century.
Paklenica: Paklenica is one of the most beautiful parts of Velebit and is on the UNESCO list of World Biosphere Reserves. Annual Paklenicu visit up to 100 000 Visitors, mostly climbers, because of its cliffs. Paklenica is attractive because of the numerous sports facilities, and because many plant and animal species that live there.
Plitvice lakes: Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and foremost national park in Croatia. In 1979 was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The main attraction of this park are unique in the world 16 small cascade lakes interconnected with waterfalls, wich were formed by deposition of travertine, a special kind of limestone. The park includes the source of the river Korana and rich woods, and numerous plant and animal species. Park is as beautiful in summer and winter. The national park offers a variety of sporting activities, a park is interesting because of transport, scenic train and electrical boats.
Risnjak: Risnjak national park is situated in the hinterland of Rijeka. He is known for being in it together as many as four different types of climate. The park is famous for its beautiful mountain trails and lookout, and by the beautiful lake of the river Kupa, rainforest areas, and the abundance of flora and fauna.
Sjeverni Velebit: Northern Velebit was proclaimed a national park in 1999 year for its outstanding natural beauty, exceptional variety of karst phenomena. Visitors are available to over 30 hiking trails that lead to a climax with a beautiful view. Within the reserve there is a strict nature reserve and is closed to visitors called Rozanski kukovi, geomorphic phenomenon in which in 1999 discovered Luke’s cave, one of the deepest cave in the world.
