Children, Gift from God: Devotion for April 8, 2012

Text: Psalm 127:3 – Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward (New King James Version).

This passage is an expression of the Psalmist’s confidence in the words of Deuteronomy 7:14, Psalm 113:9, 1 Samuel 2:5. God gives children and at His own time. God had promised us that none will be barren and He is faithful to His word. It is a reward; you MUST receive of God because you are God’s inheritance.

Let me state here that when the Bible says that it is a reward, it does not mean it is reward for righteousness otherwise prostitutes and sinners would not have received this reward. By reward, it means that it is what God alone gives and at His own time. God is the one who gives children. Many have even spent money through IVF and other methods but to no avail. All these are pointer to the fact that it is God and God alone that gives Children, and they come only at God’s own time.

It must be noted that bearing children is not the basis of salvation or eternal life. Today, many homes have broken down because a child has not been born. There was a couple that parted because no child was born. They both remarried and now have their children in their new homes. What lesson can we learn from this? My dear, your reward will come. Expect it for surely God will give you. Once you are alive, you will receive it even at old age because there is nothing to hard for Him to do. Expect yours because of the word of God in Hebrews 10:23, 11:11 and Romans 4:19 – 21. 

Food For Thought: Children come from God and at His own time, and not from man.

1. Thank God for Him alone gives children
2. Use Psalm 127:3 & Isaiah 54:1 to pray.
3. Bind every demon standing against your reward.
