"CHASING THE DREAM"

The theme in the Winter Olympic Games held in Canada is "Chasing the Dream." Reflecting for a moment on the above stated theme, I can't help but admire the athletes who really trained hard, making unimaginable sacrifices to attain their goal of capping a gold medal. In previous Olympic Games, I observed that the level of competition is very high and the desire of every athlete to win the gold medal for his or her country is very intense. Tears of joy for winning and tears of anguish for losing are seen at every end of an event. To attain their dreams, these athletes have to work hard and do the extraordinary. Discipline, hard training, right attitude, perseverance, focus, and the will to win are just some of the traits these athletes must possess to succeed. These traits can be seen instilled on The Greatest Boxer of the Decade, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, as an example. It's a pity the Philippines is still searching for that elusive gold in the Olympics.

Relating the theme to our ordinary lives in the way one pursues his personal dreams, there is a need for each and everyone of us to follow the mindset of an athlete in chasing his or her dream to succeed. It can't be denied that each and everyone of us in our toddler years had unwittingly dreamt of what each one of us wants to become in the future. But most of these dreams were never realized. Probably, the problem was that these dreams were not pursued in the way an athlete pursues his or her goal with so much passion. The attitude and dedication of an athlete in preparation for his or her upcoming battle were not emulated by an ordinary individual in the pursuit of his or her dreams in life.

It has been a proven fact that patience, perseverance, self-discipline, the will to succeed coupled with our trust and faith in the Almighty are some of the key components for the successful attainment of our dreams in life. Perhaps as an advice to those who are still trying to chase their dreams, put yourselves in the presence of an athlete for a better chance to realize those dreams. Good Luck...
