Celebrity Deathmatch (PS2): Video Game Review

Does anyone remember the old television show from MTV called Celebrity Deathmatch? I think that this was one of those rare shows that was ahead of its time and that may have been why it died out so fast. During its television reign several celebrities were depicted in their silly animated Death Matches. In 2003 it was made into a video game. My brother in-law bought a copy for me for Christmas for the Playstation2 console.

This is a review of the video game Celebrity Deathmatch for the Playstation2 console. This game has a story mode and a versus mode. Different celebrities can be unlocked along with episodes that were aired on television. You can replay these episodes in video game form now and see how they might turn out when you play against the computer or a friend.

Celebrity Deathmatch is for one to two players and is rated M for mature due to its blood and gore; mature humor; mature sexual themes; violence. In other words it’s not for kids. This ESRB game allows you to create your own death match character and play it against the celebrities.

With celebrities like Anna Nicole Smith, Ron Jeremy, Jerry Springer, Carrot Top, and many more this game is full of different possibilities. The creators of this game were genius in keeping to the show. Even the commentators were added into the game for a little interactivity.

Rating this game on my scale of one to ten was an easy 7. It plays well. It entertains. It’s customizable. And it always makes you laugh when you play. Designed by Big Ape and Gotham Games with expressed permissions of MTV, Celebrity Deathmatch the video game is a mature game for mature audiences that will make you laugh. This is not a “Must Have” game for anyone but an avid fan of the show. For those of us who liked the show this game is also a collector’s dream.

Anna Nicole Smith fans might want this game as memorabilia. She will be missed by many. Her good humor lives on in what she shared with the world. This game is one of those memories of good humor that was Anna Nicole Smith.
