As luck would have it, these bad boys soon got a chance to teach the aged fellow a lesson. The chance came in the form of a nearby king advancing to the deep forests for hunting. The king had come there to hunt for a long gap and was itching to get his hands on anything he could hunt. He hardly cared for whom he was going to kill.

Soon enough he spotted this clan of monkeys. He got excited and started shooting at will. This alerted the monkeys and they started fleeing. However, their only hope of real survival hanged on their ability to cross a big river. If they anyhow managed to cross the river, they knew they would be safe from the cruel king.

So, the big aged monkey was at the center stage at the point now. A lot depended on he controlled his clan in this hour of crisis. He asked the younger monkeys to bring the figs of banyan trees so that he could make use of it like a rope and carry the entire clan across. The obedient ones obliged and soon came back braving the attack by the king. Those young monkeys who were thinking ill of the older monkey just passed their time and returned back empty-handed.

The aged money tied the one end of the figs around his waist and the other to one of the strong branches to a nearby tree. He then took off and managed to hold on to a big banyan tree across the river. He then asked the kid monkeys to use the figs as a bridge and get over his body to safer place yonder.

The cruel monkeys took this opportunity to take their revenge on the older monkey. One of them would not cross over fast enough. The aged monkey was asking the youngster to move on faster, but he neglected him completely. The old monkey’s hands and legs were shaking as he was losing energy to hold on any longer.
