I have been craving for Buko Salad, my favorite Filipino dessert. It makes me feel like going to the Philippines just to have it. Good thing, we have Asian stores in the United States, where I can find the ingredients to make it.

Filipino Celebrations

Filipinos are fond of celebrating almost every occasion... birthdays, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, etc. Each occasion is attended by friends and relatives, and is celebrated with lots of food. When Filipinos gather, there are always varieties of food served.

When it comes to desserts, Buko Salad is always present, because it's everyone's favorite. So, I am sharing a recipe for this type of dessert, and you are free to try it if you want. It only takes a few minutes to prepare it and it doesn't involve cooking.

How To Make A Buko Salad

Buko is a Filipino term for coconut. The main ingredient is coconut, which can be found in the frozen area of Asian stores. When getting this ingredient, make sure that the package says "Shredded Young Coconut", and not just "Shredded Coconut". They are two different things. The former has a softer texture, and it tastes a lot better than the latter.

Here's a very easy-to-follow recipe if you want to try making Buko Salad. This recipe is good for at least 5 servings.

Ingredients:

4 pckgs. Shredded young coconut (drained)
2 cans Fruit Cocktails (drained)
1 can Pineapple chunks (drained)
1 bottle Nata de Coco (drained Coconut Gel)
1 bottle Sago (drained Tapioca Pearls)
1 pc. Apple cut in cubes (optional)
1 can Lychees (drained/optional)
1 can Table Cream
1 can Condensed Milk

Procedure:

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Stir thoroughly, then chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Serve and enjoy! I prefer to eat it slightly frozen.

Note: You can add some other types of fruits, but you may have to add some more table cream and condensed milk, depending on how it tastes.

Next Time You Have A Party

Buko Salad tastes so good that you will always want to have it served each time there is an occasion. I'm sure your guests will love it. Not only does it taste good, but it also allows you to serve something that only takes a few minutes to prepare. Next time you have a party, try serving Buko Salad. Good luck and have fun!
