Article Improvements

Matt Cutts

Matt Cutts is a guy who works for the search quality group at Google. He answers questions and provides free information about SEO, seperating the facts from fiction. Find him on youtube and watch his videos, they're not to be missed if you want to find out more about search engine optimization.

Original Content is king

Original content is probably the most important to keep in mind when writing articles. Take the time to put an article together and find/research unique content to read about from multiple sources. Create the article(IN YOUR OWN WORDS)and every search engine will hold it up high above the wastes and display it to the world for all to see.

Find dofollow sites with Firefox Add-on

NoDoFollow 1.1 is a tool that highlights links as dofollow or nofollow. It highlights links in blue or red on sites, forums and blogs to show which are dofollow(blue) and nofollow(red). This tool saves time when looking for places to aquire backlinks to an article. To activate the tool, download the add-on for firefox then right click the screen on any webpage and select "NoDoFollow" from the menu.

Free Grammar Check

Grammarly.com provide free use of their demo grammar checker. It won't display any specific errors on screen but will show how many errors and what type. By copy and pasting only a few sentences at a time into the demo review box, It's easier to spot and correct those mistakes. It takes a bit longer doing this but it's easier to find all the mistakes in an article. A monthly subscription will give full access to grammarly.

Google adwords-keyword tool

Google Adword keyword tool lists the amount of people searching for any given keyword every month, local, world-wide, and shows the competition for those keywords. Hitting the first page on any search engine will be much easier to achieve by using highly searched keywords with low competition.

keyword density

The right keyword density in an article will achieve better results when trying to compete for those keywords. keywords should be in the title, description, and throughout the body of an article. A keyword density of between 2% 3% is considered adequate. Rankingtoday.com is a free tool to check keyword density, loading time and link checker.

Keyword stuffing is frowned upon by search engines and will do more harm to your article than good. Place keywords throughout an article and use them in a natural way so they don't look, well, stuffed in and continually repeated.

Ping-O-Matic

Use pingomatic.com to ping your blog when you've completed it, and each time you edit it. This helps to get your article indexed faster by search engines. If you're updating more than one article at a time, use Mass-ping.com and update them all at once.

Free Directories

Directories are crawled often by search engines. Placing your article in these makes sense to get indexed quickly and to pick up backlinks from the ones that are dofollow. Iv'e compiled a small mixed list of sixty-five dofollow and nofollow directories and manually verified the page ranks on checkpagerank.net. To find out if a directory(or any other webpage)is dofollow, right click on the screen and select "view page source" from the menu. Then hold down CTRL and the F key to brings up a search box in the bottom left corner of the page source window. Type in the word "nofollow" and the word will be highlighted in green if the site is nofollow. If the search box lights up red, it means it's a dofollow site and can be used to create a free backlink for your article.
