This post is about how I found out a method for being lucky whenever I was offered to make a selection blindly.

While I was a student at engineering college, I used to get the easiest experiments in practical examinations. In practical examinations, the procedure for distributing different experiments to students as followed in our college was like this-Just before the start of the exam, the examiner spreads on the table the question papers. Each question paper contains an experiment the student has to do. But you cannot see the question before opening it. You can choose one of the question papers and open it. The experiment mentioned in it will be the one you have to do. It appears to be a sort of gambling like, doesn’t it? I am not sure whether the same procedure is followed now.

I found out a method to make a lucky selection in such situations. It all happened in the first semester. We had work shop practice. The work shop had three sections, Carpentry, Black smithy and Fitting. Among these, I disliked black smithy most as I found it very difficult for me. I was unable to bear the physical exertion and heat at black smithy work shop. The Fitting work shop was the one I liked most.

For the university practical examination, a student would be asked to do a piece of work at any one of these three sections. At the time of the practical examination, I was a bit anxious of getting the black smithy section. At the start of the exam we were offered to make a blind selection as explained in the second paragraph above. At the first look I was inclined to pick up a certain question paper.

“Not that my boy, look for another one,” said my mind and stopped me.

Then I set my eyes on another question paper and waited for instructions from within.

“That is it. Grab it,” said a voice from deep within.

I took the question paper without any hesitation and opened it. I saw with great surprise and relief that it was for the Fitting work shop, the one I liked most. The practical examination at the Fitting work shop was very easy for me and I was able to score good marks. Had I got the Black smithy work shop, it would be a different story.

From that experience I came to believe that this is the right method for me to make a lucky selection when put to make a blind choice. That is, not to choose the first one you are inclined to select. Have a second look and select the one that strikes your eye.

I followed this method in every practical examination that followed with great success. It is needless to say that I succeeded in getting the easiest experiments in all the practical exams when I was at the engineering college. All that thanks to this method.

I have tried this out not only for practical exams, but on other situations as well where I was to make a blind selection. It worked in all such situations. Then you may ask me- why don’t you select a lottery ticket using this method? Well it won’t work there, because it does not support winning money. I don’t know whether this method will work for others. You may try this method when making a blind selection and see whether it works. Anyhow there is nothing to lose. Have good luck!

Many things have been written about intuition or this inner guide that resides within. The mind resists it as always happens but to heed its call is the right choice. Thanks, my friend, for sharing your experiences.
