When you want something to please the kids and also want to cut down on the meat consumption, this recipe will do that. Beans and salad veggies along with a little meat are healthy and good for everyone in the family. Test these burgers on the family and see if they don’t go over in a big way.
Black Bean Chili Burgers
Serves 6
Ingredients
1 Tbs chili powder
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp cumin
1 pound ground hamburger
1 can (15.5 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
½ cup minced onion
½ cup salsa
½ tsp black pepper
6 whole wheat buns
Mash beans with fork, Mix with all other ingredients in a large bowl.
Make into 6 patties. Spray patties with nonstick vegetable oil. Spray
frying pan with nonstick oil. Cook patties on each side about 4 minutes
or until done. Serve on whole wheat buns with more sliced onions, tomatoes
lettuce and a bit of catsup and mustard if you wish.
Here is an easy way for a healthy snack. Peel the third top of a cooking apple, and core it. wrap it in plastic wrap, then microwave on full power for about 2 1/2 minutes. The apple will be very hot, so be careful. Let it stand for two minutes then top it with frozen vanilla yogurt, cinnamon and raisins. Delicious and nutritious. Your kids will love it.
